GIS for Water Resource Management Course
INTRODUCTION
The aim of this course is to provide both a solid theoretical understanding and a comprehensive practical introduction to the use of geographic information systems and remote sensing technologies for the analysis and solution of different water and environmental problems.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
The course is designed for professionals (engineers and scientists) active in the water/environmental sector, especially those involved in planning and management of water systems as well as numerical modeling. Prerequisites are a basic knowledge of computing and water related topics.

No prior knowledge of GIS is required.
COURSE OBJECTIVES

To understand the basic principles underlying the GIS/model-based management of water resources and environment

To become familiar with the GIS-based analytical and problem-solving techniques for sustainable planning and management of water resources and environmental problems.
COURSE OUTLINE
The course focuses on the analysis of digital spatial data, preparation for numerical modeling, presentation of modeling results and support to the decision making process. Some of the topics covered in the course include the following:
Module 1:
o Introduction to geographic information systems and remote sensing technologies,
o Active and passive remote sensing,
o Data structures,
Module 2:
o Map projections and coordinate systems,
o Processing of digital geographic information,
o Creation of digital elevation models,
o Visualisation,
Module 3:
o Mapping of water and environmental features,
o Watersheds, streams and aquifers delineation,
o Map Digitization,
o Soil and land use mapping,
Module 4:
o Watershed Analysis
o Map algebra,
o Terrain analysis for hydrological and hydraulic modeling,
o Presentation of modeling results,
Module 5:
o Analysis to generate new information and knowledge,
o Dissemination of new information and knowledge,
o GIS as a decision support tool.
This instructor led training course is delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.
All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.
Accreditation
Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with a Livecode Technologies certificate.
Training Venue
The training is residential and will be held at the Livecode Technologies Training Center in Westlands, Nairobi, Kenya. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, lunch, and study visits.
All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.

Training Fees
The course fees is KES 70,000.00 or USD 1000.00 exclusive of VAT. The course fees covers the course tuition, training materials, two (2) break refreshments, lunch and study visits. Participants will cater for their travel and accommodation costs.

Cancellation Policy
Payment for the all courses includes a registration fee, which is non-refundable, and equals 15% of the total sum of the course fee.
